Woodworker of the Year

Lee Johnson was the ultimate volunteer.  He donated unknown amounts of time and energy to the Guild, helping members to become better woodworkers.  He was an absolute master craftsman, building many incredible pieces of furniture on commission. See the March 2011 newsletter for additional information.

He was a total advocate of the Golden Rectangle and taught its principle in his classes as well as in a few Guild general presentations.  An easy going guy,, you would be proud to know him.

A close friend of his made a generous donation to the Guild to establish some kind of memorial. The Guild Board of Directors created a Woodworker of the Year award to be given annually to a Guild member who puts forth an above and beyond effort as a volunteer.

Lee passed away late Monday evening, March 21, 2011.  All of his family, from Boston, California, and here in Portland were with him.  A few days ago, what was going well suddenly took a turn for the worse, and the decline, as anatomy would sometimes do, was rapid.  He left us at home among loved ones.  And he leaves hundreds of us with a large empty spot inside.
