Guild Description
Guild of Oregon Woodworkers
P.O. Box 13744
Portland, OR 97213-0744
The Guild of Oregon Woodworkers, founded in 1982, is a non-profit volunteer
organization comprised of approximately 40% professionals and 60% amateurs and
hobbyists of various skill levels. Guild members have a variety of woodworking
interests, including furniture design and construction, cabinet making, antique
furniture restoration, turning, carving and sculpture. The Guild is supported
primarily by membership dues and local sponsors in the wood industry and
related businesses.
The Guild is a great source of information for every level of woodworker. At
monthly meetings, members can improve woodworking techniques and marketing
skills through demonstrations, guest speakers and discussions. These meetings,
on the third Wednesday of every month, are held at different members' workshops
or at local places of business. General locations alternate each month between
the Portland and Salem areas.
The Guild publishes a monthly newsletter with articles of interest, reports of
events, notes, comments and classified ads. We have a web page for members,
where professionals can promote their businesses. Through the Guild, many of
our sponsors give us special prices and/or discounts on purchases of select
tools and accessories as well as their expertise on tools, equipment and
woodworking. The Guild also conducts a series of seminars on diverse topics,
such as different aspects of furniture construction, veneering and finishing
techniques. In addition, we sponsor a student competition in woodworking at the
Oregon State Fair every year for high schools, middle schools, community
colleges and any students of a woodworking program in Oregon.
Besides developing woodworking skills, members have the opportunity to display
their work at a number of shows and events throughout the year. We also have
picnics and various social events where members can meet woodworkers from other
local clubs.
In conjunction with the Northwest Wood Arts Guild Association (NWWAGA), which we
co-founded, we provide a venue for our members to sell and exhibit their works
along with the other Association members.
So, if you are a woodworker or have an interest in woodworking, you are invited
to join all the fun and camaraderie of the Guild of Oregon Woodworkers. Please
